Q: What is a Business License and how do I know if I need one?
A. A Business License is the means whereby the City or County in which you wish to conduct business grants you permission to engage in the business for which your license will be issued. If you commence, carry on or engage in any business, either permanently or temporarily, within the limits of the city or county, you are required to maintain a valid unexpired business license. If you provide a service or sell any products within the county or city, you are required to obtain a business license. If you operate in one location within the city or county, yet provide services to customers in surrounding cities and or county, then you must be licensed in each municipality. If your business is based outside of the state or vicinity, and you provide products or services to customers within the city or county, you must obtain a business license.
Q: Are Business Licenses hard to get?
A: Not really. However, doing business in Nevada is different than in many other states. There are applications for State Business Licenses, Tax Permits, Unemployment Permits, City Business Licenses, Privileged Business Licenses, County Business Licenses and the like. Because of the many requirements those not familiar with the application process can waste a great deal of time applying for and obtaining required licenses. Incomplete paperwork or applications will require one or more return trips which can further take away valuable time from you and from your business.
Q: Do I need a license if I am coming from Out of State to do business in Nevada?
A: Yes. Any business coming to Nevada to commence, carry on or engage in any business or provide products or services, either permanently or temporarily are required to maintain valid unexpired business license. Any Business coming into Nevada to work a convention, whether it be a service or selling products, must be licensed in the appropriate city or county.
Q: If I have a State Business License, can I operate anywhere in Nevada?
A: No. Nevada requires that you register to obtain a State Business License to operate a business within in the State, however, you still must obtain local licenses for the city and or county.
